Corvallis Oregon Entertainment Calendars

Corvallis has always had entertainment, and early journals speak of music, dances, and parades. Chautauqua talks were common, and the various fraternal lodges were in their peak in the last half of the 19th century (one journalist argued that it was a way for younger men to compete with the vast parades, uniforms, distinctive caps and "encampments" of the veterans from the Grand Army of the Republic, who had fought the war against the slavers running the country heretofore.) Church and ice cream socials were common place. We're really not so far removed from our predecessors.
