Skateboarding in Corvallis, Oregon
Corvallis has had skateboarders since the early 60's, first with the big wide skateboards, and later with more sophisticated models replacing them. For a few years an uneasy truce existed between pedestrians downtown and skateboarders looking for curbs and sidewalks for the long rides and the balancing tricks only just emerging among skateboarders around the world. A skatepark was built of plywood in Avery Park but Oregon rain takes a toll on organic material and eventually the city skate park was built. Bicyclists had to fight for the right to practice there but eventually a truce was reached.
