| These paintingss of animals are all from the cave at Altamira, in Spain. The painted ceiling at Altamira Cave remains the most famous of all Paleolithic art works. The decorated area measures 220 yards long by 10 yards wide. | |||

| The cave was
found in 1879, when Don Marcelino Sanza de Sautuola took his young daughter Maria with him to the cave of Altamira to look for small portable objects which might have dated from prehistoric times. Glancing up at the low ceiling, Maria discovered something more remarkable, an area covered with polychrome paintings of bison.
